Open your browser's developer tools on any page of this site, go to the console, and type:

document.cookie

You should get an empty string. Our automated tests assert exactly that on every route, so if it ever stops being true, the build breaks before you see it. If you find a cookie here, that is a defect and we would like to hear about it.

Then how do you count visitors?

Plausible Analytics, which is EU-owned, EU-hosted and cookieless. It counts page views without setting a cookie and without building a persistent identifier for you. It processes your IP address in order to derive a country and to de-duplicate a visit within a day, and does not store the address itself. There is no cross-site tracking, no advertising network and no data sale. The privacy page has the detail, including the lawful basis.

Why we bothered

Under the ePrivacy Directive as implemented in Ireland, consent is required for storing or accessing information on your device unless it is strictly necessary for a service you asked for. The usual response is a banner. We took the other option: remove the things that need consent. That meant self-hosting fonts rather than loading them from a third-party CDN, choosing cookieless analytics, and not embedding third-party forms, video players or chat widgets.

It is also a straightforward matter of respect. The first thing a website can do to a visitor is ask them to negotiate before reading. We would rather not.

What about the product?

The MESvantage application is a different matter and is not covered by this page. Like any system with authenticated users, it uses a session cookie to keep you signed in — which is strictly necessary for a service you explicitly requested, and therefore not something you are asked to consent to. It sets no analytics or advertising cookies of any kind. Data processing inside a customer environment is governed by the signed agreement and its data processing addendum, not by this website's policies.
